Connie Fitch Taylor, a native of Auburn, has announced her candidacy for Auburn City Council, Ward 1.
Taylor is currently the administrative assistant to the associate vice president of Capital Projects and Facilities Services at Tuskegee University and also worked at Auburn University for 30 years, 18 of which with Contracts and Building Services.
“Being in a culturally diverse population during my tenure at Auburn and Tuskegee University has allowed me to work and communicate with people from all walks-of-life,” Taylor said. “My employment from both Universities has also allowed me to develop skills relating to project management, budget management, crisis resolutions, and sound judgment.”
Taylor earned a business administration degree from Faulkner University in 2010, and is a mother of three and a grandmother of two. She has worked as campaign manager on former city council member Arthur Dowdell’s campaign, current Lee County Commissioner John Harris’s campaign, and Alabama State Representatives Pebblin Warren’s campaign.
“Working and campaigning for over 20 years with Auburn City Councilmen, Lee County Commissioners and Alabama State Representatives has fully prepared me for my journey as Auburn City Council representative for Ward 1,” Taylor said.
Taylor has served two terms on the city of Auburn’s Cemetery Advisory Board, has served on the Lee County Commissioners Sub Committee and is a former secretary for the local NAACP and a former foster parent. She is also a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church where she serves as a trustee and on the Women's Ministry Group.
If elected, Taylor’s goals on city council would include bringing affordable housing into the community, to work on infrastructure issues facing the city, to bring job fairs into the predominately black community in places where the citizens can easily commute, to implement a crime prevention program, to work with troubled teens and young children, and more.
“The foundation has been laid, so let’s build the future,” Taylor said.
The city of Auburn municipal elections will take place Aug. 28. Incumbent Verlinda White has also announced her candidacy for Ward 1.
