About Connie
Why are you running for city council?
I have an understanding of the Auburn City government. Over the last 15 years, I have worked with City Councils, Lee County Commissioners and State Representatives to develop a much better understanding of how the politics of the city flow. I want to promote a positive, proactive model of what a city council person can do to influence positive change. I have no preconceived agenda or alliances, so my loyalty lies in the city as a whole. I want to represent all citizens, especially those in Ward 1.
What do you have to offer Auburn?
My 25 years of experience from Auburn University and Tuskegee University as the Assistant to the Vice President and Director of Facilities Management has to help me to understand how to accomplish complex tasks and get results. I understand how important it is to have insight on Capital Projects and Construction Management to make the City a better place for all citizens to live and to safeguard small town historical values for our citizens. I understand the importance of having a strong leadership that knows how to work together for the city.
Who supports your campaign?

I have friends in Auburn and other surrounding areas that have encouraged me to run for the City Council seat. My Pastor strongly supports my campaign. They all have committed their time and expertise.

How much money will you spend?

I will take campaign contributions. I want be sure the voters have an opportunity to understand my position on issues that will affect the City and its Citizens.
What kind of campaign will you run?

I will run a positive campaign to convince the voters of Auburn that I have a lot to offer regarding my business experience, education, and my commitment to the community. Serving two and a half terms (9 years) on the Auburn Cemetery Advisory Board has enhanced my knowledge with the City of Auburn.

Do you think the city is going in the wrong direction?

The fact that Auburn is rapidly growing, I feel Auburn is at a critical point in these difficult economic times, and a firm model of management is needed to continue guiding the city for maximum effectiveness. We need Councils who will work to guarantee that our quality of life remains a high priority and will work together in a proactive functional manner for the betterment of the city, its businesses, and citizens as has been in the past. I would like to work on preserving the historic neighborhoods, as of right now the City may be going in the wrong direction by incorporating student housing in the Historic districts in Northwest Auburn. I want to convince my fellow councils to look more closely at planning and zoning so that we can assure the citizens that this area as just as necessary as the newly developed areas of Auburn.

What is your position on open space?

I am a big supporter of open space; it is what makes our community so unique. I would like to see the city better utilize current in town trail systems for biking, hiking & walking, and more accessible while maintaining current trails utilizing alleys, streets and sidewalks within the city limits. These community values – open space, small-town atmosphere, lifestyle and the arts along with a family-friendly community are what have protected our property values and made our city a destination for second home owners, year around residents, retirees and others.
